According to L’Équipe, PSG continues to hire architects to draw up plans to renovate the Parc des Princes despite an unwillingness to sell the stadium from the local Parisien government.
In addition to plans to renovate their current stadium, Les Parisiens are planning to launch a bid to purchase the Stade de France. Any final application must be submitted by the 3rd January 2024.
Despite these plans to purchase the Stade de France, the Ligue 1 champions have not abandoned the idea of renovating the Parc des Princes.
The plans to renovate the 47,929-seater stadium would include a retractable roof and a new pitch influenced by the design of the new ground laid at Real Madrid’s Santiago Benabéu.
These ambitious refurbishment plans are being aided by architectural firms Pierre Ferret and Populous. As things stand though, PSG are no nearer to agreeing to purchase the stadium.
PSG officials would also like to extend the capacity of the Parc des Princes to 60,000. If Les Parisiens were able to carry out these planned renovations, it would be because a deal to acquire the stadium had been agreed with the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo.
L’Équipe reports that the PSG could be forced to return to the negotiating table to agree a deal to purchase the stadium due to the difficulty of finding land to build a new stadium and the complexities of purchasing the Stade de France.
