Lionel Messi has officially signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Inter Miami, joining on a free transfer following his PSG exit.
Saturday’s announcement follows an interview Messi gave to Spanish outlets June 17 when he stated his intention to move to the MLS club, rejecting a possible return to Barcelona as well as a huge financial offer to become the latest big name to head to Saudi Arabia.
Lionel Messi will wear his iconic number 10 at Inter Miami as the MLS club confirmed his arrival in Florida.
On Saturday, Inter Miami released a video in which the Argentina superstar could be seen wearing the club’s pink shirt with the number 10 emblazoned on the back.
“I’m very excited to start this next step in my career with Inter Miami and in the United States,” said Messi. “This is a fantastic opportunity and together we will continue to build this beautiful project.
“The idea is to work together to achieve the objectives we set, and I’m very eager to start helping here in my new home.”
Messi will be officially unveiled before fans alongside fellow new signing Sergio Busquets at Miami’s DRV PNL Stadium on July 16. The pair know each other well from their time together at Barcelona and both men could make their debut against Mexico’s Cruz Azul in the Leagues Cup on July 21.
